Babies and Motor Skills

For a baby, the development of motor skills is an important milestone in their journey towards independence. Learning to roll, sit, crawl, pull up, cruise and walk all take an enormous amount of effort, practice and courage.

At Oaks Park, our environment is designed to encourage and facilitate free movement. Our furniture is low and sturdy, allowing babies to use to stand, or to guide them as they move around a room. When your child is able to sit, we invite them to sit at a low table and chair to eat, avoiding the constraints of a highchair.

Babies’ development of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination is still in development in these early months. With this in mind, we support your infant as they attempt to gain control of their wrist, hand and finger movements by providing compelling materials to explore and play with.

"...we have had the pleasure of watching our daughter become an independent, happy, confident and secure little girl."
